A short tour of Italy - Central Sardinia

If you opt for a European tourist destination, consider the island of Sardinia, a region of southern Italy. Depending on the interest you to this beautiful region an ideal holiday destination. You can get classic Italian food, and wash yourself with fine wine. Some parts of Sardinia remain undiscovered by tourists, while other sites are favorite jet-setter, and accordingly priced. Su Nuraxi, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the best example of a 4000 years old stone defensive structure called Nuraghe found only in Sardinia. Nuraghe are usually like a beehive, embossed with huge stone blocks, but without a foundation or cement. Every hill contains one or more rooms and perhaps a yard and in the course of twenty meters (twenty feet) high will be. Sardinia has more than 8,000 Nuraghe. Do not miss the ruins of the nearby Bronze Age village.

Giari diGesturi is a 28 square mile (45 square kilometers) of basalt plateau. It is home to wild horses and wild sheep with beautiful curved horns that made them an endangered species dwarf. See these magnificent animals while it's still time.

Nuoro, in view of the mountains. This is the real Sardinia, not the coastal towns. Natives feel particularly proud that foreigners have never conquered. Traditions are an important part of local life and the many local festivals.

Archaeological discoveries and fascinating folklore and legends abound. But the city is not a spiritual desert. It's called "the Sardinian Athens" due to its large number of poets, writers and intellectuals such as Grazia Deledda, the second wife of the Nobel Prize for Literature (1926), born and raised in Nuoro win.

There's morethan 500 types of bread in Sardinia, one for each village. The best known is the pani carasau that resembles thin pita. Vernaccia di Oristano DOC wine is produced in a small area near the town of Oristano, a local white grapes with that name. According to legend, the grapes come from the tearsSanta Giusta, the patron saint of Oristano and the wine helps fight malaria.
